Misinformation and misunderstandings about biological sex have always been prevalent, but sexuality professionals now live and work in a time when we, our colleagues, and our clients are more likely to encounter it than not. Intersex Beyond Pathology is for progressive sexuality professionals who want to understand biological sex beyond the made-up binary and learn what it can look, sound, and feel like to be intersex from people with lived experience, not simply medical.

This course will highlight the diverse spectrum of intersexness while divesting from the dehumanizing and oppressive pathological frameworks that so often dominate discussions of intersex - if those discussions even happen at all.

By the end of this course, attendees will be able to:

  • Explain what intersex means using expansive, accurate language

  • Recognize intersex as a biological spectrum

  • Recall at least three ways that intersexness can show up in humans

  • Identify at least two ways that the medical system has contributed to harm toward intersex people

  • Recall the dehumanizing origins of the biological sex binary

This course meets the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for 2 CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification. Completion of this program does not ensure or guarantee AASECT certification.
