This course is open to all sexuality professionals. It is required for those completing the EDST Sex Therapy Certification.
Mainstream discussions of trauma, its impact on the body/mind, and the importance of healing are prevalent and “viral,” but sexual trauma remains a taboo and murky topic. Sexual Trauma is for progressive clinicians seeking an expansive understanding of the effects of sexual trauma across the lifespan and creative tools for helping clients access safety and healing. Attendees will explore a range of tools that can be used to support the healing process, including embodiment, self-touch, healthy risk-taking, and inner child work.
This workshop offers a compassionate, clinically informed, and candid perspective of sexual trauma and the ways it can shape clients’ inner and outer worlds. Attendees are encouraged to show up as fully as they can while also prioritizing their mental, emotional, and physical health.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
Identify at least two examples of internal and external safety and how to establish both with a client.
Describe how to help clients come back from dissociation.
Discuss at least three benefits of self touch as it relates to healing from sexually traumatic experiences.
This course meets the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for 3 CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification. Completion of this program does not ensure or guarantee AASECT certification. A. Ethics and ethical behavior
H. Health/medical factors that may influence sexuality including, but not limited to, illness, disability, drugs, mental health, conception, pregnancy, childbirth, pregnancy termination, contraception, fertility, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infection, other infections, sexual trauma, injury and safer sex practices.*
J. Sexual exploitation, including sexual abuse, sexual harassment and sexual assault.
This course covers the following AASECT Sex Therapy Training Skills:
C. Theory and methods of approach to intervention in relationship systems experiencing sex and intimacy problems.
F. Ethical decision-making and best practice.
