When clinical and social representations of “healthy sexuality” center on youth or fertility, the ever-evolving sexualities of older adults become minimized to the point of erasure, with clinicians and providers unequipped to support their aging clients. Ageless Sexuality and Pleasure is for progressive clinicians that want to disrupt this cycle and build a more expansive, anti-ageist perspective on sexual exploration, fluidity, and identity.

This course will help attendees learn to navigate and prepare for conversations with aging clients related to sexual, relational, and bodily changes, as well as how to work with the grief that comes with the many “endings” that can occur within our sex lives as we age - including the impact of an acquired disability, dating or relationship disappointment, divorce or separation, and death of a partner.

This course also will help attendees identify the many joyful, healing, and pleasure-filled experiences that come with aging, and how to challenge clients’ limited beliefs about their or an aging partner’s sexuality.

By the end of this course, attendees will be able to:

  • List three non-medical concerns or experiences common with sexuality and aging

  • List three pleasures, excitements, and fulfillments common with sexuality and aging

  • Discuss the impact of ageism, ableism, heteronormativity, and purity culture on sexuality and aging

  • Evaluate personal biases related to sex, pleasure, and aging

  • Identify three common misconceptions about sexual identity as we age

This course meets the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) and is approved for 2 CE credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification. Completion of this program does not ensure or guarantee AASECT certification.
